Moderatorinnen und Moderatoren sollten die Mitglieder einer Arbeitsgruppe nicht nur für die gemeinsame Arbeit motivieren, sondern auch deren Aktivitäten und den Gruppenprozess koordinieren. Dieser Beitrag beschäftigt sich mit Gruppenkoordination, die eine Voraussetzung für Gruppeneffektivität ist, insbesondere bei komplexen Aufgaben. Die Entscheidungsfindung in Gruppen stellt eine komplexe Aufgabe dar und erfordert eher explizite als implizite Koordination. Ausgehend von der Annahme, dass es sich bei expliziter Koordination um Verhalten handelt, das sich nicht einfach im Gruppenprozess ergibt, sondern aktiv von Personen mit der Intention zur Koordination eingesetzt wird, untersuchen wir individuelle Koordinationsabsichten und planvoll eingesetzte Koordinationsmechanismen. Im handlungstheoretischen Sinne handelt es sich dabei um handlungsleitende Kognitionen, die auch als subjektive Theorien bezeichnet werden.
Die subjektive Perspektive spielte in der bisherigen Forschung zur Gruppenkoordination keine bedeutsame Rolle. Dies ist nachvollziehbar, da subjektive Aspekte der Gruppenunterstützung generell schwierig zu definieren und zu messen sind. Wir führten daher fokussierte Interviews mit acht Expertinnen und Experten durch, die entweder als Managerinnen und Manager oder als erfahrene Gruppenmoderatorinnen und Gruppenmoderatoren arbeiten. Die von den Befragten berichteten individuellen Ansätze und Methoden der Gruppenkoordination wurden inhaltsanalytisch ausgewertet.
Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass die Moderationsexpertinnen und -experten differenzierte mentale Repräsentationen ihres Koordinationsverhaltens besitzen. Diese subjektiven Koordinationstheorien können als Koordinationsschemata organisiert werden, in welchen die Wahrnehmung eines spezifischen Koordinationsanlasses zur intentionalen Anwendung eines Koordinationsmechanismus führt, der wiederum die Wahrnehmung spezifischer Konsequenzen nach sich zieht.
Wir diskutieren die Bedeutung dieser subjektiven Koordinationstheorien im Hinblick auf die effektive Unterstützung der Entscheidungsfindung in Gruppen und die Minimierung von Prozessverlusten der Gruppenarbeit.

Given the strained political situation in Iraq & general unrest in the world, in two studies we asked adolescents not directly involved in the Iraqi crisis about their identification with their particular nation, with Europeans, & as citizens of the world. We explored their fears & predicted changes in the face of a possible war in Iraq. Additionally, we asked the students about their political attitudes & related them to their reported changes & expectations & degrees of identification. Study 2 also investigated whether students from 3 different countries holding differing official opinions on the Iraqi crisis (Germany, Switzerland, Spain) differed in their national identification & in their attitudes, fears, & expectations. Results show only moderate levels of student identification with their nations. The exception is Spain, in Study 2, where the Spanish students highly identify with being Spanish. The reported fears & changes in face of war are manifold & range from fears of insecurity & terrorist attacks, rising political & religious tension, to worries concerning rising petrol prices. Most of the students did not support a military intervention in Iraq. Differences between the students in the three countries & their relation to social identification are discussed. Coordination in Human and Primate Groups presents one of the first collections of the different approaches and methods used to assess coordination processes in groups. Written by psychologists and primatologists, the book represents a broad range of coordination research fields such as social psychology, work and organizational psychology, medicine, primatology, and behavioural ecology. It is designed for researchers and practitioners interested in understanding the behavioural aspects of group coordination.

Speaking up with suggestions, problems, or doubts is important—especially in health care action teams where each team member's input can be crucial for the treatment of a patient. Implementing a high-fidelity simulation study, we investigated individual predictors of speaking up in acute care teams (ACTs). Participants were 27 physicians and 27 nurses from a hospital who completed measures on self-perceived agency (i.e., assertiveness, persistence, independence) and communion (i.e., helpfulness, friendliness, sociability). In two-person teams, they managed simulated critical events that required speaking up. In line with our hypotheses, we found that agency positively and communion negatively predicted actual speaking up behavior. We discuss the differential effects of agency and communion on speaking up and thereby highlight theoretical and practical implications.
